Infant Baptism (Infant to 6 years old)
If you desire to have your child baptized or you are expecting and would like to prepare for your child’s Baptism before his or her arrival, this is a time to rejoice! We at SS. Simon and Jude Cathedral look forward to assisting you in preparing your child for their first step in his/her life in Christ.
In scripture Jesus proclaims, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”(Matthew 19:14) Baptism washes away what’s known as “original sin” and is the means by which we are made God’s own children.
If your child is 6 or younger we have a baptism program that consists of 2 sessions and both parents and godparents (if they live in town) are required to attend both sessions.
Attend 2 sessions
Turn in the necessary forms and certificates
Attend the 2 blessings
*Please note no baptism dates can be secured until all necessary documents are turned in.
Next Classes: Please Call the Faith Formation Office to register for the next classes for parents and Godparents.
There is no cost for the Sacrament of Baptism, however, we always appreciate any donations given which you can deliver in an envelope, at the end of your child’s Baptism.

It is through Baptism that we begin our sacramental journey into the Church. Through the Holy waters of baptism, we are united to Christ, freed from sin, and reborn as sons and daughters of God, thus becoming members of the church. In a special way, infants are to receive the gift of baptism from the church through the loving consent of their parents. Parents will need to provide:
· Copy of Child’s Birth Certificate
· Fill out the parent form in our Baptism Packet
· Take a pre-Baptismal class (Certificate of class)
· Although it is not a requirement, we always strongly suggest parents should be registered members of SS. Simon & Jude Cathedral
As of right now our Baptism Classes are online only if you or the Godparents prefer to take the in person you may do so at another Catholic Church and the Baptism Class Certificate must be turned in with the other requirements.
We will give you instructions to watch the Reborn series on Formed.org. The videos are available in English and Spanish. After watching this series, you will contact the Faith Formation Office so that we may ask you some questions regarding the videos you watched we do strongly suggest you take notes during these videos. For more detailed information please contact the Faith Formation Office.

Godparents will need to provide:
· Copy of First Communion Certificate
· Copy of Confirmation Certificate
· If married, a copy of Marriage Certificate (by the Catholic Church) must also be presented along with the certificates of First Communion and Confirmation.
· Must take a pre-Baptismal class (Certificate of class)
· Fill out the form for Godparents please have their parish sign and add their parish seal.
Note: To have your child baptized, you will need at least one person to stand as a Godparent. If you wish to have two, one must be male and one must be female.
We know how exciting it is to have your child baptized, which is why we have provided dates for you to see what works best for your family. We always HIGHLY suggest that you NOT make any plans before turning in your packet and requirements, we want this process to be as stress-free as possible, and these dates may be subject to change. It is very rare when our spots get filled up, but it is not impossible, please turn in your packet and requirements as soon as possible.
Your date will NOT be secure until EVERYTHING is turned in and completed. Please DO NOT make any plans until after you have turned in your complete packet and have taken the baptism classes.
DUE DATE = THE LAST DAY WE CAN ACCEPT ANY COMPLETED PACKETS/PAPERWORK (includes the Baptism classes, please call us before the due date to go over the videos)
We do not accept incomplete Baptism applications so please have all the required documents included before delivering the Baptism packet in person to the Faith Formation Office, we cannot accept the packet or any documents through email.
Once all needed information is turned in, we can secure a date!
Do I have to be registered as a parishioner?
We strongly encourage you to become a part of our parish but, it is not required, we encourage you to become a part of our parish family by registering. Becoming registered and being an active, contributing parishioner is part of living out our baptismal call to be a part of the parish family “God’s family”. Not being registered will not delay your child’s baptism we can still move forward while becoming a new parish family member.
I want to continue with the process, what is the first step I need to do?
Pick up our Baptism packet! You can come into our office (during office hours) and pick up the packet there or we can send it to you through email, please email Alexa and let her know you want a copy of the Baptism Packet, and she will be happy to send it to you!
What time are the Baptisms?
The times for our Baptisms we do not share until the packet along with all the requirements are completed.
What if the Godparents lost/can't find the certificates required?
No worries they can contact the church where they received their Sacraments and request a copy or a letter stating they received their Sacraments at that church. Still having issues? Contact us!
What if the dates you have for Baptism is not what I wanted?
We are sorry to hear that our dates don't work for you, due to our priests very busy schedule it is at this time that we currently do not offer private baptism/other dates for Baptisms.
What if one of the two Godparents is missing a Sacrament (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and/or Marriage through the Catholic Church)? Can he/she still be a Godparent even though they missing a Sacrament, but the other Godparents has all their Sacraments?
No, both Godparents need to meet the requirements listed above.
